Song of the Week

This weekend I had a little family outing. It was just me and my dad along with my neighbors and some other people. We went around the countryside in Cundinamarca, which is about the greenest thing I have ever seen in my life. If you drive your car around these areas you are so surrounded by green that you feel that there is nothing like global warming in the world. So the car ride was accompanied by a great green view and music that the driver put on and my friend showed me.

The driver is my friends father and he has more than 6,000 songs in his Ipod. Sure he is a 50 year old man but he actually has a pretty good taste in music hence this weeks song. He is into alot of varied music. His daughter is my friend and she is just 11 years old, but has a very set mind on what kind of music she likes. She is really into Blink 182 and well, doesn't speak very much English. There are some Blink 182 songs that aren't part of the reportua I would want an 11 year old listening to, but who can stop her. I had to explain a very disturbing song title that the band had that my friend had no idea of the meaning of. So yeah I corrupted a little 11 year old girl on Sunday.

We might have been listening to Blink 182' s hard rock, but in the background this beautiful song started playing. I couldn't take it and pulled off the little white earphone. That's when I was introduced to "Sing" by Travis. I listened as my friend stared at me with a face that was mixed with disgust and wonder. Cant blame her, as I said she is not very open to new music. In the end her father told me the name to the song and now it is my song of the week.

Its a very calm song that has catchy lyrics. What most attracted me to paying attention to this song was the rhythm of the song because I like to think its perfect. There are just some songs in which the vocals and the instruments are completely in tune and you just cant help yourself feeling drowned by the perfect melody they create.

In one car ride I went from listening to an 11 year old's hard core playlist to a 50 year old man's calm one. And no I am not ashamed of it; I'm actually proud of my ability to expand my music horizons. So enjoy!

The Video

Here is the video for the single Miley released. In it we see a more mature Miley branching out and showing of her dancing skills. Not only does she dance with men but there are a few scenes where there is some girl on girl action. As I stated on my older post, she is trying to show herself in a new light that proves to all her fans, even the annoying 4 year olds, that she has moved on from being a good girl . and they should do the same.

My personal favorite outfit is the peacock feather one. She also looks super different in that part, maybe its because the makeup enhances something, or the editing of the video did something. If you look at the "birds" that suround her, she is like the only pretty one. Sucks for them I guess.
Emjpy the video!

Apparently Miley Can´t Be Tamed

Miley Cyrus; the eccentric one, the romantic one, the one you love to love and hate. With her short shorts, her bra showing through her shirt, and the nagging paparazzi flashing every step she takes with a blinding light that confuses her from her true path. She is just another teen Disney star heading toward oblivion in a fast changing world.

Once the sweet young girl who would carry a doll of Uncle Willy into talk shows thrilling the audience with just her presence, Miley Cyrus is growing toward womanhood. A journey that fellow stars like Taylor Swift and Vanessa Hudgens went through with grace and poise, Miley begs to differ. Watching Miley going through hard times is a guilty pleasure we give ourselves in the dark. Her pole dancing and romances with men 5 years older than her gives us a topic with which to start conversations. But what is new with this unexpected teenager? What is our new topic of conversation?

Catching up with Miley is her true identity, the one she has been forced to change to become a star. Now, the media is following a girl who is doing what the rest of us do in a daily basis; learn who we are. Hannah Montana and Miley Stewart are fake characters. We have to understand this before we judge Miley Cyrus. Miley isn't the girl who sings songs about "hopping into planes and throwing your hands in the air", she herself has admitted to this, she is the tough chick who sings hardcore pop and prefers black over purple. Proof of this is shown in her new single titled "I Can’t Be Tamed".

"I can't be tamed, I can't be saved

I can't be blamed, I can't, can’t I can't be tamed,

I can't be changed I can't be saved, I can't be (can't be)

I can't be tamed"

These are the inspirational lyrics that make up the chorus of Cyrus’s new song. Seeing a different side to her? Don’t let it come as a shock because this is the future for her, a shallow song exploring only tribal interactions with others(ok maybe not all her songs). The song is unlike anything we have ever heard from Miley. It shows us that the image that Disney had created for her is a bit of a sham and makes us question who else will come out of the closet next.

Miley started at a young age in Disney, 11 to be precise. She got the role as Hannah Montana and Miley Stewart, playing a young pop star who leads a double life. Her career has grown from there and she herself has also grown in the public eye. What separates her from the rest of the celebrities, is the fact that they got their time to grow up and have a normal teenage life. Miley had to grow fast because of her good girl contract with Disney and now, her growing up is under a magnifying lens that the media and the public manipulate constantly.

Hearing the song is like hearing a confession. Miley co-wrote the song and I think used her life as a theme. The song isn't bad, the rhythm is actually really good but its nothing unique along side bands like Cobra Starship. Right now the glamorous life of singers is all about reinvention. If you don't have something new to put on the table, your time in the game is limited to modeling campaigns and music videos, after that you slowly fade from the minds of the public. Take all the other members of Nsync, they left while Justin Timberlake stayed.

Miley was transforming well, taking a role in the movie “The last song" and dating an actor not a model. We saw her in a happy place where she was finally showing us her true colors and being herself. Then this single was released as well as the video. Shocking us all by dancing with both men and women in the video, we see that progress has come to a halt. The streetlight in Miley´s life was yellow but by doing this huge leap into the freeway, it turned bright green. We now only see all our assumptions confirmed as she shows us that she could actually be the next Britney. Why make a huge leap when she was doing fine just taking her time to grow?

"I go through guys like money flyin' out their hands

They try to change me but they realize they can't

And every tomorrow is a day I never planned

If you're gonna be my man, understand"

See what I mean? Here she expresses that she just wants to be herself. Then there’s the whole guy like money part, which confirms her path toward Britneyhood. Like I said the rhythm of the song is great and it creates a fun party mood but its going to take some getting used to. Its just different to what we’ve heard but what she has always wanted to do. We are getting a dose of the true Miley and already there are those who can’t keep it down.

I actually don’t mind Miley but if her younger fans hear this song, she won’t be the only one hard to tame. She is creating a name for herself that isn’t followed by Mickey ears and 4 year olds. She wants to be Taylor Swift without the halo on her head, she wants to be one of the few who make it, but most importantly she wants to be herself..

Torn by Natalie Imbruglia

This weeks song is Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. Its kind of an old song but I just found it this weekend. I had heard the song before but had never been able to know the name, until Saturday. I am reading "Message In A Bottle" by Nicholas Sparks and when I watched the trailer, the song came out. I typed in some of the lyrics into Google and after years of questioning myself about this song, found it.

Natalie Jane Imbruglia was born in Australia and began her career with music at a young age. Before singing her main focus was in dancing until she joined an all girls music group. She only lasted in the group for a while because the managers saw she was better of having a solo career. At age 16 she left high school to pursue an acting career. She was in a popular Australian soap opera called "Neighbors" but left after the second year to London. She became absorbed in the club scene and went bankrupt. The bankruptcy forced her to sing again which she was scared of. The reason for this fear was the fact that people had only seen her in an acting scene not in a musical one. In the end she presented a demo to the song "Torn" and was signed to BMG Publishing and impressed RCA Records. After that, her musical career began.

"So I guess the fortune teller's right
I should have seen just what was there

and not some holy light
but you `crawled beneath my veins

and now I don't care, I have no luck"
This is a fragment of the lyrics in the song, verse 2 to be precise. What I like most about this verse is the fact that she says that she saw what she wanted to see and not the real thing. And even though she saw what she thought was there, she still fell for the person. Who hasn't experienced that? Thinking the person you like is perfect when in reality they aren't. I know I have but this can also happen in a good way though.

What I like most about this song is the fact that when you've heard it once and years pass you by you still remember it somehow. When I checked out YouTube comments on this song, they were all about how they hadn't heard this song in years but it had always been in their heads. Her voice is also amazing and goes great with the song, not anyone can sound this calm while singing about heartbreak.

I hope you like the song and that it gets stuck in your head.

Advertisment

This is our official YouTube Video for feeldatbeat! Enjoy!

Jason DeRulo Video!

You might remember this song from a few weeks back as our song of the week. I mentioned back then how cool Jason DeRulo´s music is but now I get to tell you what a great dancer he is. The video is from the song "Ridin Solo" which is in his self titled album "Jason DeRulo".

I found out about the video recently and was shocked to see what a great dancer he is. Sure in his other video for the song "Watcha Say" you saw some of his dance moves but in this one they are definitely the highlight of the video. I wonder if he did the whole choreography himself?

The clothes he wears are really cool too and the confidence he puts into the lyrics is great. Instead of just acting or whatever, you see he is actually happy to be single in the video.

Well I hop you enjoy this video and check out more about this talented performer.
